Celebrate the bright festival of Mysore Dussehra with us. During the Mysore Dussehra celebrations, you can see Karnataka in all its splendour. This 10-day festival is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show, so people come from all over the world to see it. Mysuru Dussehra is India’s most spectacular Dussehra festival. It has beautiful processions, cultural events, fairs, and shows. If you wish to attend the Dussehra  festivities this year, book your taxi with Bharat Taxi.

Mysuru used to be called “Mahishur” because it is thought that Mahishasura, a buffalo-headed demon, was killed there by Goddess Chamundeshwari, a form of Durga. Since then, people have been very excited about the next nine days.

Mysore Dussehra’s High Points

Jambu Safari

One of the most important parts of this festival is the Jambu Safari, also called the Elephant Procession. During this parade, 12 trained elephants dressed in bright clothes are led through the streets. The idol of Chamundeshwari is carried by one of them on a golden platform. From the Mysore Palace, the procession goes to Bannimantap. During the procession, you can see performances like traditional dances, musicals, and swordsmanship. It is a sight to behold. As it goes through the streets of the city, it spreads zeal and joy to everyone.

Parade with Torches

The Jambu Savari parade comes to an end at the large Bannimantap Grounds, where a torchlight parade is held to welcome everyone. This beautiful parade shows how grand the old rules were and gives a glimpse into the state’s glorious past. Fireworks, bike shows, cultural programs, and laser shows are all amazing and will leave you speechless. It is the most important part of the festival and brings the ten days of the Mysuru Dussehra celebration to a close.

The lights at Mysore Palace

During this cultural extravaganza, thousands of lights are put on at the Mysore Palace, which is the royal home and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore. This is a treat for the people who come to see it. When you’re in Mysuru for the celebrations, you can’t miss the beautiful palace, which is lit up with about 97,000 bulbs.

Exhilarating Exhibition

At the Doddakere Maidana, there is a very interesting exhibition. It opens at the Mysuru Dussehra festival and stays open until December. The exhibits are the most beautiful way to show off the city’s cultural and religious history. You can also buy clothes, kitchenware, and other things to take home with you. There are also a lot of ways to have fun, like the Ferris wheel and other exciting rides. Aside from that, you can enjoy delicious treats and authentic food. After all, a celebration is never complete without tasty food.

Durga Puja

In Mysuru, Dussehra is a celebration of Goddess Durga’s victory over Mahishasur, the devil. So, this festival honours the Goddess in her form as a warrior. Before the Jambu Safari, the king and queen pray to the idol of Chanundeshwari in the Mysore Palace. You can also take part in different ceremonies and poojas that happen in temples all over the state.

Dasara Wrestling

Traditional Dussehra celebrations have always included wrestling as the main event. The Nada Kusti event is a big draw that wants to bring attention to this old art form. To win the titles, wrestlers from all over the country compete. Many people only get to see a wrestling match once in their lives.

Dussehra Flower Show in Mysore

The Mysuru Dussehra Flower Show is one of the most well-known events, and people come from all over the country to see it. Most of the time, this show is held in Nishad Bhag or Kuppanna Park. This event shows off a beautiful collection of flowering plants, which is a treat for the eyes. The Mysuru Dussehra Flower Show is hard to pass up because of how beautiful and colorful it is.

Other Happenings

During the ten days of Mysuru Dussehra, there are many events and parties going on all over the area. From sports games and film festivals to yoga, wrestling, and tours of the past. During these ten days, you can have fun at these events.

The cannon firing is an important part of the Mysuru Dussehra celebrations as well. The 21-gun salute is done as a sign of respect for the Chief Guest. The Jumbo safari moves along with music bands and dance groups while cannons fire in the background. When the National Anthem is played, the police officers in the City Armed Reserve do this salute. Before the Mysuru Dussehra celebrations, elephants and horses practice with loud noises to get used to them. The state has kept its old traditions alive, which adds to the charm of the festival.
